Margaret Mary (Stassen) DeSutter, 89, of Hawarden, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Doug Klein, Msgr. Michael Sernett, and Father Roger Linnan concelebrating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church. Margaret, the daughter of Louis and Mary T. (Claeys) Stassen, was born August 29, 1925 in Marshall, Minnesota. On Sept. 4, 1946 she married Henry L. DeSutter in Marshall. They made their home in Ghent, Minnesota before moving to Holstein, Iowa in 1962, where they raised their family. Margaret was employed at a local Holstein bank. She and Henry retired to Hawarden, Iowa where she was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church. She enjoyed golfing and card playing with her many friends. Margaret was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting.
Survivors include six children, son, Mark and wife Patricia of Hawarden, son, John and wife Angela of Tunica, Mississippi, daughter, Colette and husband Randall Jensen of Grand Junction, Colorado, daughter, Sheila and husband Alan Bauer of Ashland, Missouri, son, Robert and wife Kristin of Eagle River, Wisconsin, and daughter, Jeannine and husband Tom Janning of Sparks, Nevada; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren with two on the way; brother, James Stassen and wife Fanny of Long Island, New York; sister, Bernetta and husband Bob Freson of Onalaska, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Bernadette Stassen of Marshall, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Henry on August 29, 1998; both parents; one sister, Genevieve Lanoue and her husband Harold; and one brother, Eloi Stassen.
