Inwood, IA: Marcus James Blom, 10, of Inwood, Iowa, died Thursday, February 9, 2017 at his home from injuries sustained in a farm accident. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 14, at 1:00 PM at Netherlands Reformed Congregation with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be Monday, February 13, at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley from 6:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Netherlands Reformed Christian School.
Marcus James Blom, son of Brian and Cynthia (Van Surksum) Blom, was born April 23, 2006 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Marcus attended Netherlands Reformed Christian School in Rock Valley, Iowa where he was currently a 5th grade student. He grew up on a farm south of Inwood, Iowa. Marcus loved being a farm boy and always enjoyed helping others. He loved reading, making wooden benches and other wood projects. Marcus will be remembered for being a kindhearted, deep-thinking, creative and thoughtful child.
He is survived by his parents, Brian and Cynthia Blom of Inwood; 2 sisters, Michaela and Madison Blom, both of Inwood; 2 brothers, Matthew and Micah Blom, both of Inwood; paternal grandparents, Cornie and Bev Blom of Corsica, South Dakota; maternal grandparents, Jim and Mary Van Surksum of Rock Valley; paternal great-grandfather, Joe Van Der Brink of Sioux Center, Iowa; maternal great-grandparents, Richard and Mary Van Surksum of Rock Valley; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Marcus was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Arie and Clazina Blom, Arlene Van Der Brink, and Gerrit and Henrietta Van Grootheest.
