  1.  ALVORD, IOWA ~ Marcia Rae Boer, 73, of Alvord, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
  2.    Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Inwood First Reformed Church in Inwood, Iowa, with Rev. Rob Horstman officiating. Following the luncheon, burial will be at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery in Alvord, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter Funeral Home in Inwood, Iowa. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The Funeral Service will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-X6pfGKanHtikofRnNX2Gg. Marcia’s family prefers memorials be directed to the Inwood First Reformed Church.
  3.    Marcia Rae Boer was born March 23, 1951, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Palmer and Jean (Mitchell) Larson. Marcia was raised on their family farm just east of Worthing, SD where they raised livestock and crops, she was baptized and confirmed at the Beaver Creek Lutheran Church. She attended Sunnyside School near Worthing, South Dakota through the 8th grade and graduated from Canton, South Dakota High School in 1969. She then attended Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating in 1972.
  4.    Marcia married John Boer on July 15, 1972, at Canton Lutheran Church. Together they lived and farmed their entire married lives near Alvord, Iowa where they raised their family. Marcia was a Registered Nurse at Hegg Health Center and the Director of Nursing at Valley Manor in Rock Valley, Iowa for 19 years and from there to the Good Samaritan Luther Manor and Good Samaritan Society Center in Sioux Falls for the next nearly 20 years where she also was the Director of Nursing, where she retired in 2018. Marcia spent her entire career and life caring for not only for her family but her hundreds to thousands of patients, ensuring they were giving the best care and love as if they were her own family. This brought endless joy to her life and was a strong part of her personal brand as a strong Christian woman. Marcia was a very strong in her faith, the bible was always by her side in their home, she was sure to instill that strength into her children and grandchildren throughout her life.
  5.    Marcia and John were always involved with their children’s activities, whether it be FFA, wrestling, volleyball, or football games. As their grandchildren came along, they continued to attend many church, school, and athletic events that they were involved in, they didn’t miss many of the grandkid’s activities whether it was close to home or all over the country, they were there. They made many friends along the way though out their lives, the most fun they had was with their best friends, Greg and Cheryl Twedt, to which they enjoyed traveling around the United States and overseas. Marcia enjoyed wintering in Mexico for the past 15 years and also liked traveling with her cousins’ group to different destinations internationally and domestically. Marcia looked forward to her weekly lunch outings with her sister Cheryl, who was also her best friend from birth.
  6.    Marcia was very strong in her faith, which she was proud to share with her family, including her grandchildren. Family was the most important part of her life; she loved them all dearly.
  7.    Her survivors include her husband, John; 3 children, Mike (Janette) Boer of Alvord, Jeff (TaNeal) Boer of Harrisburg, SD, and Shauna (Jared) Kooima of Rock Valley; grandchildren; Braxton (Taya), Hailey, Corbyn, Jada, Lucas, Avery, Isaiah, Krysta (Tristan) and Amanda (Steve); great-grandchildren; Noah, Anna and Waylen; brother, Doug (Netta) Larson of Canton; sister, Cheryl Carlson of Harrisburg; John’s siblings, Barb (Earl) Meyer, Eloise (Wayne) Warner, Pam (Scott) Hanson, Paula (Rich) Jensen, brother-in-law, Pat Gacke and Lisa (Kim) Van Ginkel.
  8.    Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Palmer and Jean; John’s parents, John and Rita Boer; brother-in-law, Steve Carlson; sister-in-law, Kim Gacke; and Cheryl and Steve’s daughter, Angie, in infancy.
