Inwood, IA: Mabel Solveig Halstenson, 97, of Inwood, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Fellowship Village of Inwood. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 22, at 10:30 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Inwood with Pastor Marv Johnson officiating. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.porterfuneralhomes.com/obituaries/mabel-halstenson. Private family burial will be held prior to the service at Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Friday, July 21, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the church.
Mabel Solveig Halstenson was born December 14, 1925, in rural Larchwood, Iowa to Hans and Lena (Rodland) Mydland. She grew up in the Larchwood and Inwood, Iowa area, graduating from Inwood High school in 1943. After graduation she began working for the telephone company in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and worked there until she married. On December 4, 1949, she married Floyd Halstenson and they made their home for the next 50 years on Sunny Side Farm. They raised 3 daughters Sheila, Kathy, and Lisa. They resided on the farm until 2002 when they moved to Inwood. Mabel moved to Fellowship Village in November of 2022 and lived there until her death on July 18, 2023.
Mabel was a woman with a strong Christian faith. She was involved at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities. Mabel worked for many years at Lee Seed, fondly called “the Nut House”. She cherished the friendships and memories she made with her coworkers. Floyd and Mabel enjoyed traveling. Mabel especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She showered each of them with love and instilled her faith through her actions.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Sheila (Marv) Johnson, Kathy (Jim) Mohan, and Lisa (Mick) Pedersen; 8 grandchildren, Jill, Karstin, Laura, Rachel, Becky, Emily, Justin and Tommy; 14 great-grandchildren, Greggory, AJ, Gwen, Alicia, Addison, Logan, Kaitlin, Emily, Evelyn, Maeve, Charlie, Maren, Ole, and Corryn; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; parents, Hans and Lena Mydland; and siblings, Harold, Lilly, Stanley, and Victor.
