Lucinda "Cindy" Schoellerman

   Lucinda “Cindy” Schoellerman, 96, of Lebanon “rural” Sioux Center, Iowa met her lord on June 11, 2020.

   Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2020 at the Peace Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Center, Iowa with Rev. William Leofke officiating. Burial will follow in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present beginning at 5:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church. Social distancing guidelines will be followed in the church. The funeral service will be livestreamed, go to the church website peacelutheranlcmc.org.

   Cindy was born October 12, 1923 in Worthing, South Dakota, to Monroe and Eleanor (Wenbourne) Williams, the oldest of 9 children. Cindy married Richard Schoellerman on March 31, 1944 at Fairview Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Lebanon, Iowa in 1950 and had a family trucking business for 57 years. They were blessed with seven children: Phyllis (John) VanBeek, Arnold “Butch” (Lois) Schoellerman, Doralee (John) Lynch, Ronald (Ann) Schoellerman, Monroe “Monty” (Shelly) Schoellerman, Roger (Faye) Schoellerman, and Candace (Warren) Gradert, 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.  She is survived by her brother Lester Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two children, Phyllis and Butch.

   Cindy attended rural schools in the Worthing area and graduated from Canton, South Dakota High School in 1941. After graduating, Cindy attended Nettleton College and Sioux Falls College where she received her teaching certification. Cindy received her education as part of the National Youth Administration program which was part of the New Deal under the Roosevelt administration. After graduation, she taught in several rural schools in South Dakota and Iowa. She shared stories of being stranded at the schoolhouse with students for several days during blizzards.

   Cindy became a member of Peace Lutheran Church in 1950 and was secretary of the church for a number of years. She was a much-loved Sunday school teacher for many years, and held offices in the District, Cluster and Synod of the National Evangelical Lutheran Church.  She was a member of the rural study club in the Lebanon area for over 50 years.

   Cindy was an integral part of the Schoellerman Trucking business, stepping in to do whatever work needed to be done, whether loading cattle, driving trucks, answering phones, or managing books. After retiring from the trucking business, Cindy worked for 5 years at Mid-Sioux in Sioux Center, Iowa.  

   Cindy enjoyed spending time with family and especially enjoyed traveling with her kids and grandkids. She loved the “girls” trips to attend dinner theatre where they enjoyed lots of laughs. Cindy was an avid reader and continued to read books until only a few days before her passing. She enjoyed crafts, embroidery, and crochet.

   Cindy had a special talent for decorating her dining room table and other areas of her home for each season and holiday. Her family and friends loved discovering changing decorations in the home with each visit. They also loved Cindy’s collections. Cindy began collecting salt and pepper shakers as a young girl after receiving a pair from her grandfather. Cindy documented over 3,600 pair of salt and pepper shakers in her collection, many of which were given to her by family and friends. She also enjoyed a collection of over 300 bells and 6,000 pencils.

   Cindy believed, “My God and I Can Do It,” so get busy and do it. Do the best with what you have. Be grateful for your gifts and talents and use them for success.

   Cindy’s family learned from her examples of faith in God, hard work, kindness, honesty, and love. She will be missed but never forgotten.
