Lorraine Edmunds

Hawarden, Iowa: Lorraine K. Edmunds, 87, of Hawarden, Iowa died Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden, with Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery of Hawarden. Visitation, with the family present, will be Thursday, March 2, from 6:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 PM. Lorraine Katherine (Falk) Edmunds was born April 2, 1929 in Hawarden, Iowa to the late Erick and Hilda (Ronsiek) Falk. She attended a rural school south east of Hawarden in which she later taught for six years. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1946. She attended college at Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, Nebraska and Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa where she graduated with a B.A. degree in 1967. She taught school for 44 years. She taught in 2 rural schools for 12 years and 32 years at West Sioux teaching kindergarten and Chapter 1.

Lorraine was baptized, confirmed and married in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden where she was a member.

Lorraine belonged to the ISEA and NEA for many years. She was a member of NWIRA and the Ireton PTA until retiring. She retired from teaching in 1991.

On June 7, 1958, she married Dale Edmunds. The couple purchased a farm southeast of Hawarden and Lorraine continued to live there after her husband passed away in 1989. She was a typical farm person loving the outdoors, feeding the birds, all kinds of animals, especially her cats.

Lorraine was a kind, patient, caring, thoughtful and generous person, and always on time for everything.

Survivors include one brother, Harlan Falk and his wife Diane of Omaha, Nebraska; one nephew, Brian Falk and niece, Suzanne (Joel) Brodd of Omaha; a great nephew and niece, Richmond and Kyrstyn Brodd of Omaha; and a step niece, Nicole (Matt) McMullen and a great step nephew and niece, Zachary and Ella McMullen all of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale; her parents; a brother and his wife, Alfred and Helen Falk; all of Hawarden.
