Lois Reinke

Rock Valley, IA: Lenah “Lois” Reinke, 95, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 20, at 10:30 AM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. The service will be recorded and available to watch following the funeral at https://www.porterfuneralhomes.com/obituaries/lois-reinke. Private family burial will follow at Canton Lutheran Cemetery in Canton, South Dakota. Visitation with the family present will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30-10:30 AM at Porter Funeral Home.

   Lenah Lois Reinke was born October 3, 1928, to Louis and Lena (Hendrix) Brandhagen in Worthing, South Dakota. After the death of her father, her mother married Elmer Stengel. They continued to live in Canton, South Dakota where she graduated from Canton High School in 1947. Lois was united in marriage on October 9, 1948. This union was blessed with five children, Douglas, David, Timothy, Thomas, and Pamela.

   During her early years she worked as a telephone operator. After moving to Rock Valley, Iowa in 1960, Lois worked as a secretary at Thornburg Company and later at Valley State Bank. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Rock Valley where she sang in the choir.

   Lois enjoyed gardening, cooking delicious meals, canning, playing Bridge and attending her children's activities. During her senior years she enjoyed playing Bingo where she made many special friendships. The last two years of her life were lived under the wonderful care of the staff at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.

   Lois is survived by her children and 15 grandchildren, son, Douglas (Helen) Reinke of Sioux City, Iowa, and their children, Chad (Jodi) Reinke, Robin (Jon) Peschau, and Scott Reinke, son, David (Debra) Reinke of Rock Valley, Iowa, and their sons, Heath (Jen) Reinke, Lance (Anna) Reinke, and Blake (Jodi) Reinke, son, Timothy (friend, Kendra) Reinke of Sioux City, and his children, Justin Reinke, Brent Reinke, Christopher Reinke, and Austin Reinke, daughter, Pamela Reinke of Omaha, Nebraska, and her son, Chad (Anna) Goldhammer, and daughter-in-law, Deb Reinke (Son, Thomas, Deceased) of Prospect, Virgina, and their children, Cara (Ryan) Thomson, and Caleb Reinke, and Tom’s daughters, Miranda Reinke and Alyssa Reinke; 32 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

   Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Lena; stepfather, Elmer; sister, Joyce (Lloyd) Messerli; and son, Thomas.
