Sioux Center, Iowa - Lois E. Mitchell, 83, of Sioux Center, formerly of Ireton and Hawarden, Iowa died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Van Rathbun officiating. Burial will be prior to the service, with the family gathering at 10:00 a.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Ireton, to proceed to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Ireton. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Lois E. Mitchell was born July 17, 1930 in Maurice, Iowa, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Smit) Kleinhesselink. She graduated from the Orange City High School and then assisted her mother with their in home nursing care. Lois married Harold Francis Draayer at the American Reformed Church in Orange City in 1948. They lived on the Draayer Dairy Farm north of Ireton until they moved to an acreage northwest of Ireton in 1960. She worked at the Ireton Grocery Store and later as a bookkeeper at the Ireton Plumbing Shop. Harold died in 1977.
Lois married Herman Dirksen in 1979. She later married Keith Mitchell in 1989 in Orange City. Together they lived in Hawarden before moving to Sioux Center in April of 2006. Keith died later that year on June 22, 2006.
Lois attended the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Among her hobbies were gardening, flowers, reading, and doing hand work. She loved spending time with her family and would always have plenty of goulash and bread and jelly for her family's Sunday visits. Lois liked to visit with others and participating in hymn sings.
Those who mourn her earthly passing, but rejoice in her heavenly entry, include her three children, Maribeth Moberg and husband Richard of Kingsford, Michigan, Randy Draayer and wife Barb of Hull, Iowa, and Gretchen Van't Hof and husband Randy of Sioux Center, Iowa; 7 stepchildren; her siblings, George and wife Donna Kleinhesselink of Orange City, Betty Jasper also of Orange City, Walter Kleinhesselink of Le Mars, Iowa and Robert and wife Nancy Kleinhesselink of Orange City; 10 grandchildren; 21 step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 31 step great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; infant baby, Todd in 1961; brother-in-law, Clarence Jasper; sister-in-law, Verjean Kleinhesselink; step grandson, Kyle Maher; and step son, Ron Dirksen.
