Lois J. Meether

Hawarden, Iowa: Lois J. Meether, 91, of Hawarden, Iowa, died Thursday, December 2, 2021, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 8, at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Hawarden with Rev. Joshua Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Tuesday, December 7, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. A prayer service will follow the visitation at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) and condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The funeral service will be livestreamed on Trinity Lutheran Church Facebook page.
Lois Jennine Meether, daughter of Martin and Elizabeth (De Vries) Rise, was born May 31, 1930, at Fairview, South Dakota. Her father died when she was a young girl and her mother married Emil Anderson who later adopted Lois. She attended country school near Hawarden, Iowa and she graduated from Hawarden High School, class of 1948.
Lois married Orin Boisen on September 21, 1947. Together the couple farmed and raised their two children, Sharon and Steven. Orin died April 20, 1983. Lois worked at Streit Pharmacy and Smart Shop in Hawarden. Later she worked as an office manager for a home care business in Sioux City, retiring in 1992. She married Duane Meether on April 8, 1989. The couple made their home in Hawarden and enjoyed traveling together. Duane died January 2, 2021.
Lois was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Hawarden where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Ladies Aid and stewardship committee. She also belonged to the Krafty Kats Craft Club.
Lois is survived by son-in-law, Jim McGuire of Vermillion, South Dakota; her five grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Sigaty of Sioux City, Iowa, Jennifer Jurgensen of Elk Point, South Dakota, Nick (Christine) Boisen of Eagan, Minnesota, Amanda (Alex) O’Rourke of Healy, Kansas, and Elizabeth Hahn of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three stepchildren, Lori A. Childs of Hudson, Iowa, Michael (Ginny) Meether of Indianola, Iowa, and Stuart (Elizabeth) Meether of Wichita, Kansas; stepdaughter-in-law, Lisa Meether of Parkersburg, Iowa; 10 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren with another one expected in 2022.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Rise-Anderson; fathers, Martin Rise and Emil Anderson; husbands, Orin Boisen and Duane Meether; son, Steven Boisen; daughter, Sharon McGuire; brother, Martin Anderson; sister-in-law, Bette Anderson; and stepson, Matthew Meether.
