Hawarden, Iowa- Lois Mae Edmunds Hopp, 84, of Hawarden, passed away due to a long illness at the Hillcrest Health Care Services on Wednesday, September 2, 2015
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present beginning at 5:30 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Lois Mae Edmunds Hopp was born to Floyd (Pat) and Minnie (Vander Hamm) Hendricks on May 21, 1931 in Hawarden, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Hawarden High School in May 1949.
Lois married Milo Roy Edmunds June 10, 1949. Three children were born of this union, Pamela Kay, Rodney Lynn, and Michelle Sue. Lois and Milo spent 37 wonderful loving years together until Milo passed away in September of 1986.
Lois worked as a book keeper for Booth Drug. She was a secretary for Schoeneman’s Lumber yard of Hawarden and Alkota in Alcester, South Dakota. She was a secretary for For-Most, Inc. eventually becoming the general manager there. Lois and Milo purchased a woman’s apparel shop in Hawarden renaming it Unique in 1983. Their daughter, Shelley was a manager there for 11 years.
On September 22, 1990, Lois married Donald Eugene Hopp from Le Mars, Iowa. They made their home in Hawarden with a blissful 17 years until Donald’s passing in September 2007. They enjoyed retirement together, their families, and traveling with Don’s siblings all over our great nation.
Lois was a proud ‘49er. She was always helping to organize a class reunion for any and all that could be there year after year. She played clarinet in the school band and years later joined the community band here in Hawarden. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School, being superintendent of the Sunday School, and taking part in the women’s groups. Lois got her real estate license and worked for her classmate, Creighton Wegner. She volunteered at the Hawarden Thrift Shop for several years.
Music and dancing from ballroom to square dancing; crafts and reading; fashion and jewelry were Lois’ passions. Her family, friends, and our community meant the world to her.
Thankful to have shared such a beautiful life are her daughters, Pamela (Keith) Schuller of Hawarden and Shelley Edmunds of Hawarden; two granddaughters, Amanda Mae Batchelder of Valley Springs, South Dakota and Alexandria Jean Batchelder of Le Mars, Iowa; a brother-in law, Merle Wells and two sisters-in-law, Carmen Green and Lorraine Edmunds all of Hawarden. Through her marriage to Don: daughter, Claudette Barr of Spencer, Iowa; three grandsons, Paul Rydell, John Rydell (Jesse Baker), and Rich (Veronica) Doede; and 6 great-grandchildren all of Spencer, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Virgil Hendricks; her 6 year old son Rodney; two husbands; and one sister, Beverly (Merle) Wells.
