Hawarden, Iowa~ Lloyd H. Red Youngkin, 88, of Hawarden, died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at his residence in Hawarden.
Memorial Service will be 11 AM Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at American Lutheran Church in Hawarden. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to service.
Lloyd H. Red Youngkin, the son of Cy and Mabel (Wood) Youngkin, was born on December 12, 1926, in Hawarden, Iowa. Lloyd graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1945. On March 19, 1949, he was united in marriage with Marjorie W. Younie. They were blessed with two children, Stephen Douglas and Rhonda Lynn.
After attending Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, Minnesota, during 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served two years as a Hospital Corpsman. Discharged from the service, he worked in Cys Body and Fender Works in Hawarden. In 1951, Lloyd became a partner in the Coast-to-Coast Store with his father and brother, Ellwood. After thirty-five years of operating a successful business, he retired on March 26, 1981.
Lloyd served two terms on the Hawarden City Council during the 1960s and again from 1983-1990. He also served nine years on the school board and worked as an EMT for six years during the 1970s.
He was a member of the Associated Church and served on the Endowment Committee for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; son, Stephen Douglas and his wife Julia and daughters Siena Glenn and Ancelin Waite of Pocatello, Idaho; and daughter, Rhonda L. Gaylord and her husband David of Moscow, Idaho; brother, Ellwood and his wife Audrey of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and sister, Marjorie R. Younie of Hawarden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Louise Younie; and brother, Ted Youngkin.
Family prefers memorials be given to Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital Foundation.
