Lillie Feil

Rock Valley, IA: Lillie Feil, 93, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Whispering Heights of Rock Valley after a short illness. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 5, at 10:00 AM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be Friday, November 4, from 6:00-7:30 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Memorials may be given to Whispering Heights.

Lillie Elsie (Filler) Feil was born July 15, 1923, daughter of Reinhold and Christianna Jacoba (Goll) Filler. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school and Anamoose High School. She attended one year of college and taught school until her marriage to Alfred J. Feil, at the Anamoose Baptist Church in Anamoose, North Dakota. Together they lived in Oakland, California, while Alfred served in the United States Army. After serving they moved back to North Dakota where they farmed in the Martin, North Dakota area. While farming, they moved to Minot, North Dakota where Lillie worked at a nursing home as the activities director. In 1985 they retired to Rock Valley, Iowa.

Lillie was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church where she was a member of Faith Circle. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, painting, gardening, baking, and cooking. When visiting her, she always asked if “you had eaten?”. She especially enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lillie is survived by her daughter, Carol (Keith) Pollema of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Bryan (Barb) Pollema, Kari (Vern) Hoekstra, Peggy Pollema (Steve Wikan), and Billy (Jessica) Pollema; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter, Eden Lillie Hoekstra; sister, Violet McCartney of Nebraska; 3 brothers, Walter, Wesley (Dana), and Rufus Filler, all of North Dakota; sister-in-law, Arlene Feil of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Freada (Bob) Bartz; brother, Roy (Darlene) Filler; sister-in-law, Margene Filler; 3 brothers-in-law, Lawrence McCartney, Herbert (Ruth) Feil, and Art Feil; 2 sisters-in-law, Anna (Edward) Dockter, and Palma (Martin) Dockter; and 1 niece Lorene Betz.
