HAWARDEN, IOWA – Leslie R. Ludwigs, 84, of Hawarden, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden.
No services are planned at this time for Mr. Ludwigs. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family.
Leslie Raymond Ludwigs was born December 11, 1936 near Chatsworth, Iowa, the son of Henry D. and Martha (Beeck) Ludwigs. He married Marcene Schwiesow January 25, 1957 at Chatsworth. Les farmed and then worked at the Akron Creamery until it closed and then at Wells Blue Bunny in LeMars. He returned to farming and worked as a farm hand for many of the area farmers.
He loved music and spent many hours playing the guitar. He and Marcene would visit many of the nursing homes in the area and give musical programs. In addition to loving music, Les also spent many hours doing drawings with colored pencils, which he shared with family and friends. He enjoyed working in his yard and always had a garden, whether on the farm or when they moved into town.
He is survived by his wife, Marcene; two children, Lea and Michael; a grandson, Dustin Smith and wife Alexandria; 3 great-grandchildren, Christian, Trinity, and Matthew; a great-great-grandson, Bryson; two brothers, Lawrence Ludwigs and Lowell (Jan) Ludwigs; and a sister, Eunice (Les) Vetos.
Les was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Darlene Burley; a brother in infancy, Wayne John Ludwigs; and a great-grandson, Timothy.
