Rock Valley, IA: Les Spaans, 33, of Hull, Iowa died unexpectedly on Monday, March 03, 2014 at his home. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Matthew Haan officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation, with family, will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley from 6:00 ' 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Leslie Gene Spaans, son of Larry and Bonnie (Doering) Spaans, was born on January 2, 1981 at Sioux Center, Iowa. Les was united in marriage with Rachel Rozeboom on June 11, 1999 at Netherlands Reformed Congregation at Rock Valley. The couple made their home on an acreage near Hull, Iowa. Les loved being on the farm and working outdoors. He enjoyed working with cattle, especially helping his children with their 4-H calves. Les was always willing to help anyone whenever he could.

Les is survived by his wife, Rachel of Hull, IA; children, Lucas, Levi, Courtney, Kylea, and Kayden Spaans all of Hull, IA; parents, Larry and Bonnie Spaans of Rock Valley, IA; siblings, Brenda (Marty) Erickson of Sioux Center, IA, Steve (Stacy) Spaans of Sioux Center, IA, Laurie Wiersma (fianc' Daniel Van Schouwen) of Sheldon, IA, and Barry (Kristen) Spaans of Hudson, SD; grandmothers, Hermina Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, IA and Henrietta Doering of Mitchell, SD; father and mother-in-law, Harry (Diane) Rozeboom of Rock Valley, IA; brother and sister-in-laws, Darla (Eric) Parks of Rock Valley, IA, Dave Rozeboom of Rock Valley, IA, Rebecca (Ryan) Fluit of Rock Valley, IA, and Melissa (Greg) Helle of Tea, SD; grandmother-in-law, Hermina Rozeboom of Rock Valley, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Albert Spaans and Ralph Doering; step-grandfather, Arie Van Veldhuizen; aunt, Janice Spaans; uncles, Lyle and Tony Doering; and grandfather-in-law, Dick Rozeboom.
