Leonard Marienau

Ireton, Iowa: Leonard Marienau, 86 of Ireton, Iowa died Monday, November 4, 2013 at his residence. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Andrew Carlson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday, November 8, 2013 with the family present from 5:30-7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Leonard Marienau was born April 15, 1927 in Brunsville, Iowa, to Ben and Ida (Berg) Marienau. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He received his education in the rural school system. Leonard was drafted into the US Army, serving from 1945-1947 with the 88th Sig Co. in Italy, where he repaired and maintained the military telephone and telegraph system.
After he returned from the service, he worked on the railroad, at Brunsville Feed and Smith Electric in Ireton, Iowa. He married Eleanor Hageman on April 15, 1955 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, Iowa. Beginning in 1959 Leonard was self-employed as Marienau Electric Company until his retirement.
He enjoyed playing lead guitar in country bands for 38 years and always enjoyed jam sessions with his buddies. Leonard also liked boxing, fishing, gardening, and most of all spending time with his family, grandsons, and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton and the American Legion Bertram Post #276 of Ireton. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Eleanor; daughters, Madonna (Gary) Holtrop and Rhonda (Michael) Hill all of Ireton; 4 grandsons and their wives; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine (Don) Luksan of Le Mas, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marv (Elverna) Marienau, Norm (Neva) Marienau, Robert Marienau; and sisters, Ida May Marienau, Eileen (Hank) Vander Helm and Evelyn (Norm) Klemme.
The family prefers memorials to one established in Len's name or Hospice of Siouxland.
