FUNERAL SERVICES have been POSTPONED to THURSDAY, JANUARY 26, at 10:30 AM.



Rock Valley, IA: Leo J. Klein, 73, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at the VA Health Care System in St. Cloud, Minnesota of a lengthy illness with Parkinson’s disease. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rock Valley with Father Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation will be held prior to mass, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Leo Joseph Klein, son of Loyd and Viola (Schemmer) Klein, was born September 30, 1943 at Rock Valley, Iowa. Leo graduated from Rock Valley High School, class of 1961. He went on to attend St. Gregory’s College, Shawnee, Oklahoma, where he was a letterman in golf and baseball, and he received an associate’s degree. He left there and attended Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. From there he attended the University of South Dakota. At this time he entered the United States Navy on the buddy’s program with 3 friends from Rock Valley. He spent 4 years on board the USS Washburn, stationed in Vietnam and later in Guam and San Diego, California. After his service, he finished his Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota and received a Master’s Degree from South Dakota State University. He spent the next several years teaching in South Dakota and Minnesota He spent the next five years with the Department of Defense in Germany teaching school. When he returned to the states he worked with the Department of Immigration as an Adjudication Officer. In his free time, Leo enjoyed being with friends and playing golf at the Rock Valley Golf Course where his family was an original member.

Leo is survived by his three brothers, David Klein of Condon, Oregon, Harlan Klein of Barnes, Wisconsin, and Kenneth Klein and his wife Kathleen “Kitti” of Metairie, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Viola.
