Lenora De Wit

Rock Valley, IA; Lenora De Wit, 88, of Rock Valley was called home to be with her Lord on Monday, October 5, 2020. She was a resident of Lyon Specialty Care of Rock Rapids, IA. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 9, with a memorial service at 1:00 PM at First Christian Reformed in Rock Valley with Rev. Matthew Haan officiating. The service will be live-streamed at http://www.firstcrcrv.org/. Visitation, with the family present, will be on Thursday, October 8, from 5:30 until 7:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be given to the Rock Valley Senior Companion Program. 

   Lenora Vanden Bosch was born on February 16,1932 on a farm South of Rock Valley to Leonard (Lane)  and Margaret (Lems) Vanden Bosch. She married John (Dutch) De Wit on August 8,1951 at Rock Valley. Together they farmed NW of Rock Valley for 50 years.  In 2001 they retired into Rock Valley to live at the former home of Lenora’s parents.  In late 2017 Lenora moved to Lyon’s Specialty care in Rock Rapids where she received excellent care the remainder of her life.

   Lenora was a lifelong member of the Rock Valley First Christian Reformed Church. Lenora was a talented seamstress, could build small cabinets, was good at wallpapering, and knitted many objects for children and grandchildren.   She enjoyed keeping a large garden and was an excellent baker. Late in life she enjoyed being a Senior Companion and taking various women to appointments. She also enjoyed making dolls and doll clothes for her grand-daughters.

   Lenora is survived by her children: Marlys (John) Sjaarda of Valley Springs, SD; Jerry (Melody) De Wit of Alton, IA; Audrey (Larry) Zuiderhof of Colton, SD; LaVonne (Arlo) Bonnema of Ireton,IA; and Judy De Wit of Sioux Falls, SD; 15 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. Sister-in-laws Henrietta, Nancy, and Nelma Vanden Bosch have also survived her.

   Lenora was the final living member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings: Tillie (George) Dorhout, Tom (Laura) Vanden Bosch, Bert (Lois) Vanden Bosch, Art Vanden Bosch, Grace (George) Haney, Esther (Roger) Cleveringa, Mike Vanden Bosch and Floyd Vanden Bosch. She was also preceded in death for husband Dutch, infant son Joel, and granddaughter Kala Bonnema, as well as Dutch’s siblings:  Florence (Bud) Termaat and Mildred ( Herman) Dirksen.
