Leendert "Leen" Wisse

Rock Valley, IA: Leendert S. Wisse, 86, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 17 at 2:00 PM at Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Rock Valley with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Monday, October 16 from 5:30-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Netherlands Reformed Christian School.

Leendert Samuel Wisse, son of Samuel and Jannetje (Overbeeke) Wisse, was born November 8, 1930 at Wolfaartsdyk, Netherlands. Leen grew up in the Netherlands, attending grade school, high school, and college. He immigrated to the United States in 1954. On May 25, 1956 Leen was united in marriage with Gertrude Vander Waal at Patterson, New Jersey. The couple moved to Luverne, Minnesota in 1960 and in 1967 they moved to their current home in Rock Valley, Iowa where Leen farmed. Leen also served as a bus driver for the Netherlands Reformed Christian School for 18 years. He currently helped D&K Repair of Rock Valley with delivering parts.

On the farm Leen was an avid gardener and he had a love for working the land. He was a life-long learner and even kept up with all the technological advances in agriculture. Leen cherished spending time with his family. He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation.

Leen is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gertrude; five children, Samuel (Sue) Wisse of Tustin California, Tonia Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Iowa, Arthur Wisse of Brea, California, Janene (Jim) Van Voorst and Lynda (Harold) Rus, both of Sioux Center; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mies Wisse and Laney Vander Sluijs, both of the Netherlands.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Jannetje; son, John Leonard Wisse; son-in-law, Terry Van Voorst; and an infant sister.
