LaVonne Bakker

LaVonne Bakker, 53, of Rock Valley died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church. LaVonne Jean Bakker was born November 10, 1961 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of Jake and Florence (Terpstra) Teunissen. LaVonne graduated from Western Christian High School, the class of 1980. On August 21, 1982, LaVonne married Mark Bakker in Rock Valley. Together they lived in Luverne, Minnesota for 17 years where LaVonne worked at Minnwest Bank. In 1999, they moved to Rock Valley where LaVonne was currently working at People’s Bank as a mortgage banker. She was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and served on the Habitat for Humanity Board for several years. LaVonne loved life; laughing with friends, shopping trips, and spending time with her grandchildren.

LaVonne is survived by her husband, Mark; children, Desiree (Tyler) Burggraaf and their children, Ruxin and Asher, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Lucas Bakker of Rock Valley; parents, Jake and Margaret Teunissen; brother, Jay (Anita) Teunissen of Rock Valley; sisters, Janice (Loy) Vant Hul and Joyce (Steve) Richter all of Rock Valley; and step brothers, Bill (Nancy) Van Otterloo of Sheldon, Iowa and Steve (Wanda) Van Otterloo of Rock Valley.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Florence Teunissen and son, Dustin Bakker.
