Ireton, Iowa, Laurence L. Schuller, 90 of Hawarden, Iowa formerly of rural Ireton, Iowa died on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ireton Community Center with Dean Dykstra, Cheston Stidolph, and Melinda Yule officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Laurence Lloyd Schuller was born March 9, 1925 to John and Frances (Popma) Schuller on a farm near Ireton, Iowa. He farmed with his Dad until 1945, when he was drafted in the US Army. Laurence took basic training at Camp Hood, Texas. He boarded a battle ship in California headed to Japan, but before his arrival, Japan was bombed. He served 2 years in the Army before returning home in January of 1947.
Laurence married Lorene House on December 4, 1947. They farmed near Ireton until he retired in 1980. They lived on an acreage near Ireton. Due to declining health, Laurence has lived at Hillcrest Health Care Center the past 16 months.
Laurence enjoyed hunting and trapping gophers.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene; 8 children, Gerald and Lois Schuller of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Keith and Pam Schuller of Hawarden, Betty and Glen Gerritson of Ireton, Cheryl and Dale Pies of Vale, South Dakota, Larry and Paula Schuller of Ireton, Jim and Cari Schuller of Mesa, Arizona, John and Kristi Schuller of Smithville, Missouri, and Laurie McManaman of Remsen, Iowa; 2 sisters, Shirley Van Ipren of Lake Park, Iowa and Muriel Roskam of Sheldon, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Laurence was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters, Vera, Leona, Darlene, and Marie; a brother, Wayne; and 2 grandchildren, Jeanne Mae Gerritson and Tiffany Schuller.
