Laura Elaine Koedam

Inwood, IA: Laura Koedam, 70, of Inwood, Iowa passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Thursday, March 5, at First Reformed Church in Inwood with Rev. Rob Horstman officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, Iowa. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Wednesday, March 4, from 5:30-7:30 PM at First Reformed Church in Inwood.

   Laura Elaine Koedam was born February 24, 1950 near Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Magdelena (Nobel) Van Otterloo. As a child, she lived on various farms around Rock Valley and Doon, Iowa. She enjoyed riding horses on the farm and playing softball with her sisters. She graduated from Western Christian High School in 1967. Laura was united in marriage to Vernon Koedam on August 28, 1974. She worked in production at Otis Radio and K-Products for fifteen years and most recently at Walmart for fourteen years. Laura played the organ and loved piano music, old hymns, and 50’s music. She enjoyed going to Vietnam reunions with Vernon. Laura loved traveling to her grandchildren’s events. She was fiercely loyal and supportive of her children and family.

      Laura is survived by her husband, Vern of Inwood, Iowa; sons, Chad (Brenna) Koedam of Ireton, Iowa, Mark (Ashely) Koedam of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Brent (Mandi) Koedam of Cherokee, Iowa; five grandchildren, Logan, Cullen, Eden, Kenzie and Kaely; brothers, Harvey (Joanne) Van Otterloo of Rock Valley, Art (Margaret) Van Otterloo of Hull, Iowa, and Dennis (Nelva) Van Otterloo of Brandon, South Dakota; sisters, Jeanette Van Engen of Doon, Iowa, and Viola Van Otterloo of Denver, Colorado; sister-in-law, Luretta Van Otterloo of Doon; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Merle (Ruth) Koedam of Alvord, Iowa, Shirley (Arnie) Van Voorst of Canton, South Dakota, Wes (Marge) Koedam of Alvord, Gloria (Mike) Bomgaars of Inwood, and Kenny (Amy) Koedam of Inwood.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Magdelena; parents-in-law, William and Gertrude Koedam; brother, Berwyn Van Otterloo; and brother-in-law, Harlan Van Engen.
