Hawarden, Iowa ~ Larry D. Waterman, 67, of Hawarden, died surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at his residence in Hawarden.
Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 29th at the Hawarden Community Church with Rev. Derek Vande Slunt officiating. Burial of the cremated remains with Military Rites will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Larry D. Waterman was born September 15, 1948 in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Daisy (Strong) Waterman. He served with the US Marine Corps from February of 1966 to June of 1969, and from the reserves until 1972. He received the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnamese Campaign and Service Medals.
Larry married Barb Gaul July 21, 1990. They lived northeast of Hawarden where Larry enjoyed raising animals and doing small engine work. He liked to tinker and always had projects to do. He was a long distance truck driver and later worked for LG Everist and then Boyer Gravel. They moved into Hawarden when his health started to decline.
Larry was a member of the Hawarden American Legion. He loved doing woodworking, making many items for family members such as rocking horses, shelves, and tables. He enjoyed eating out with his family and loved to visit with others.
Survivors include his wife, Barb; two sons and their wives, Josh and Sara and John and Amy all of Hawarden; three daughters and their husbands, Amy and Rick of Algona, Iowa, Bobbie and Kirt of Harris, Iowa, and Jodi and Brent of Hawarden; 14 grandchildren; and three brothers, Denny, Terry, and Bruce.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers.
