Alcester, South Dakota~ Lanea K. Zemanek, 53, of Alcester, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Morningside Manor in Alcester.
Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Big Springs Baptist Church rural Alcester with Rev. Steve Pearson officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Alcester. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa. There will be a memorial service in Mitchell, Nebraska at a later date. The family has established a memorial in her name.
Lanea K. Zemanek was born March 20, 1961 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the daughter of James and Mary (Elmquist) Rose. She graduated from Morrill High School. Lanea married Randy Zemanek on July 12, 1980. They lived in Mitchell, Nebraska for 15 years where they managed a grocery store. They moved a number of times before moving to Alcester, South Dakota in 2002. They worked at Maynards Grocery Store in Akron where Randy was the meat manager. Randy passed away in January of 2005.
Lanea loved to sew, quilt, crochet, and take motorcycle rides.
She is survived by her son, Jared and wife Brittanie of Hawarden; daughter, Stefanie and her fiancé Steven Vander Schaaf, Jr. of Alcester; brothers, Sean Sinner of St. George, Utah and Jim Rose and wife Debbie of Bayard, Nebraska; sister, Michelle Coolidge and husband Dan of Bayard, Nebraska; 3 grandchildren, Wesley, Andrew, and Trentin; and her fiancé Clayton Jacobson of Alcester; also many nieces and nephews.
Lanea was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Bev Weiss; and grandmother, Violet Rose.
