Ireton, IA: Kathryn “Kay” J. Wasser, 70, of Ireton, Iowa passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare with her family by her side. Memorial services will be Thursday, August 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Ireton with Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Inurnment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery of Ireton. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, August 24 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the church. A prayer service will follow visitation at 7:00 p.m.
Kathryn “Kay” Joann Wasser, daughter of Johanna (DenOuden) DeVries and William DeVries, was born June 28, 1946 in Orange City, Iowa. Kay’s family lived in Orange City and later moved to Ireton, Iowa, where she was a graduate of West Sioux High School, class of 1966. She was united in marriage with Dennis Wasser on June 20, 1969. Together the couple made their home in Ireton for forty-seven years. Kay was very family oriented and she served her family as a caring and loving homemaker while their two children were young. Later in life she started working at K-Products until her retirement. Kay was a very talented seamstress and made several outfits for her family to wear. She put her heart into gardening, hardanger embroidery, solving Sudoku puzzles, camping, and fishing with her husband and family. Most of all Kay cherished the time she spent with her family.
Kay is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Dennis of Ireton; two children, Scott (Kelleigh) Wasser of New Prague, Minnesota and Dana (Andrew) Schmillen of Omaha, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Anna, Drew, and John Schmillen, all of Omaha; two brothers, Bill (Mary) DeVries and Gary (Marcie) DeVries, both of Walker, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Norma (Jim) Petry of Hawarden, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
