Karen Nibbelink

Rock Valley, Iowa: Karen Nibbelink, 57, of Rock Valley died suddenly, due to lung cancer surgery complications, on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Bobby Van Otterloo officiating. Private family burial will be held at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation, with family present, will be from 5:30-7:30 PM Friday, January 22, 2016 at Trinity Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Rock Valley Christian School.

Karen Nibbelink, daughter of Joe and Anne (Chudek) Scheffer was born October 5, 1958 in Bellingham, Washington. She attended Sumas Christian Grade School and Lynden Christian High School before studying at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa where she met Jeff. Karen and Jeff Nibbelink were married on July 25, 1980. They resided in Seattle, Washington for two and a half years and then they moved to Rock Valley, Iowa in 1982. Karen became a cook at Rock Valley Christian School. She took this position as she felt it was God’s calling to nurture God’s covenant children. Karen has always enjoyed taking care of the yard including mowing and going for walks about town. Singing on the church Praise Team and belonging to Bible Study groups were very important as was spending time with the grandkids and family.

Karen is survived by her husband, Jeff of Rock Valley; three children, Kevin (Breanne) Nibbelink of Rock Valley; Brian (Kim) Nibbelink of Pueblo, Colorado; Kaysha Nibbelink (fiancé Chris Van Essen) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Cameron, Bentley, Ellie, and Emery; brother, Jim Scheffer (Jill Mesojedec) of Pompano Beach, Florida; sisters, Janice (Wayne) Brink of Lynden, WA, Sally (Gord) Van Corbach, Lynden, WA, Marna (Dean) Kredit of Tempe, AZ; mother-in-law, Norma Nibbelink of Pella, IA.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Anne Scheffer; father-in-law, Keith Nibbelink.
