Junior Van't Hul

Rock Valley, IA: Gerald Junior Van’t Hul, 72, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at his home, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Matthew Haan officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be Thursday, March 23, at First CRC from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to Rock Valley Christian School.

Gerald Junior Van’t Hul was born May 27, 1944, in Hull, Iowa, the son of Bert and Gertrude (Van Maanen) Van’t Hul. He attended Rock Valley Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School. Junior married Carol Faye Van Donkelaar on March 26, 1965. Together they lived on the farm three and a half miles east of Rock Valley. Junior lived on the farm his whole life and did custom farm work. Junior at one point farmed 700 acres and raised a lot of cattle. He started his own trucking business in 1988. Junior was a lifetime member of First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. He enjoyed camping and going out to eat with family and friends. Junior loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Junior is survived by his wife, Carol; four children, Barb (Darwin) Vander Zwaag of Rock Valley; Brian (Markie) Van’t Hul of Hull, Mike (Christal) Van’t Hul and Patrick (Misty) Van’t Hul both of Rock Valley; 19 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harlan (Mary) Van’t Hul of Rock Valley and Orville (Arlene) Van’t Hul of Hull; and sisters, Dorothy Van Beek, Harriet (Marvin) Vande Kamp, both of Rock Valley, Geraldine Vande Vegte of Inwood, Joyce (Fred) Smits of Sioux Falls, and Joanne (Rodney) De Weerd of Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Gertrude; brother, Lawrence Van’t Hul; sister, Albertha Altena; and two adolescent sisters, Joyce and Joanne Van’t Hul.
