Hawarden, Iowa- Julia 'Lola' Miner, 78, of Hawarden, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the Hillcrest Healthcare Services in Hawarden.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Doug Klein officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Julia 'Lola' Miner was born January 4, 1936 in Durango, Mexico, the daughter of Quintin Rios and Francisca Delgado. She lived in many places in Mexico before moving to California in 1963 where she married Garry L. Miner. Lola moved to Alcester, South Dakota with her children in 1973. She was employed at Custom Coils and later at the Morningside Manor, retiring in 1995. Lola moved to Hawarden, Iowa in 1998.
Lola was most proud of being a mother to her three children and sharing her love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to country music, chewing bubblegum, watching television and was very family oriented.
Survivors include her three children and their families, Toshia and her husband Gary Moffatt of Hawarden and their children Heather Bronkhorst (granddaughter) and her son Micah Fields (great-grandson), Dirk Bronkhorst (grandson), and Adriana Van Wyk (granddaughter); Lydia and her husband Juan Huerta of Hawarden and their children Niki (Jesse) Christensen (granddaughter) and their daughter Emri Christensen (great-granddaughter) and Rebecca Huerta (granddaughter); and Robert Miner and his fianc'e Ana Martinez of Holiday, Florida and his daughter, Chelby Miner (granddaughter).
