Judith Ann Bauder was born in Hudson, SD to Clarence and Alfhild (Magnuson) Bauder on March 6, 1942. She grew up on a farm near Lebanon, IA and was baptized and confirmed in Peace Lutheran Church near Sioux Center, IA. She graduated from high school in Hudson and then married her high school sweetheart, Samuel Halma on June 17, 1959 at Peace Lutheran Church. Sam and Judy lived on an acreage near Inwood, IA after they were first married, then moved into Inwood, where they spent the remainder of their married life. In their marriage they were blessed with two children, Rosalyn Gail and Brian Wade, and sadly lost a daughter in infancy, Rhonda Jane.
Judy’s Christian faith and her family were her priorities in life. She enjoyed cooking and baking and spent several years preparing food at local restaurants. She was an especially good pie baker and potato salad maker. Judy and Sam loved gardening and enjoyed sharing their produce with others. Judy was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, who demonstrated faith, patience and kindness throughout her life. She compassionately cared for Sam throughout his cancer diagnosis until his death on June 7, 2006. She was a life-long Lutheran and a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood.
After her cancer progressed, Judy moved into the Good Samaritan Society – George in George, IA where she was lovingly cared for by the staff working there, as well as the Lyon County Hospice staff.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rosalyn (Jay) Wielenga, Orange City, IA and Brian Halma, Whitewater, WI, as well as Brian’s fiancée, Jean Trost; grandchildren, Aaron and Leah Wielenga; Elizabeth, Alexis and Benjamin Halma; brother Charles Bauder of Hawarden, IA; sister Constance Halma and her husband, Clarence of Inwood.
