Joyce Fitch

Hudson, SD: Joyce Fitch, 66, of Hudson, SD, passed away on June 20, 2013, at the Dow Rummel Memory Care Unit in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24, at Hudson Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Worthington officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, June 23, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Hudson Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Please direct memorials to the Dow Rummel Memory Care Upgrade Fund. Joyce Adrianna Andela was born April 17, 1947, in Hudson, SD, the oldest of 11 children born to Andy and Beulah (Wold) Andela. Joyce began school at Blanchard country school and then West Branch country school, both near Hudson. The family moved to Hudson when Joyce was in the 5th grade where she completed her education, graduating from Hudson High School. The large family had many struggles and Joyce had to take on adult responsibilities at a very young age. She assisted her mother with the care of the home and in raising her 10 brothers and sisters.

Joyce married Robert Fitch in Hudson on August 14, 1964. The couple had three children, Robert Jr., Suzanne and Daniel. They first lived on a farm at Fairview, SD; moved to Sioux Falls in 1966; and then to Yankton in 1974 where they lived until 2004. They then moved back to Hudson into a new home on the Fitch Farm.

Joyce had several jobs in Yankton. She worked 10 years at Flora-Craft in the Yankton Mall and nearly 10 years in the business office at the Yankton Medical Clinic. The most important job to Joyce was to be a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Joyce is survived by her husband Robert of Hudson, son Bob Jr. and wife Kathy of Hawarden, IA; daughter Suzy Jones and husband Ben of Hartford, SD; and son Dan and girlfriend Connie Faulk of Yankton. She is also survived by grandchildren Cole, Hannah, Ellie, Henry, and great grandson Robby; and by nine siblings: Jack (Cindy) Andela of Hawarden, Chip (Becky) Andela of Canton, Ken (Betty) Andela of Harrisburg, Lois (Kevin) Wagner of Parkston, Chris (Tammy) Andela of Canton, Debbie (Kendall) Roti of Sioux Falls, Petra (Todd) Thorpe of Baltic, Eva (Carter) Horner of Hudson and Richard (Peggy) Andela of Harrisburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents Beulah and Andy Andela; a sister Barbara DeSmet; and father- and mother-in-law Donald and Mary Fitch.
