Joyce Bakker

Rock Valley, IA; Joyce M. Bakker, 87, of Hull, Iowa, formerly of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Hegg Memorial Health Center of Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016 at First Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Garry Nyenhuis officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Visitation will resume Thursday prior to the funeral service from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Joyce Marie Bakker, daughter of Ike and Jennie (Steenhoven) Mulder, was born October 26, 1928 in Orange City, Iowa. She attended school through the 8th grade. Joyce was united in marriage with Gerritt Bakker on September 23, 1948. Joyce worked for 35 years as a nurses’ aide at Valley Manor, now Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Gerritt died on February 18, 2013. Joyce enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycle, and playing cards. Some of her most treasured memories were time spent with family; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce was a member of the First Reformed Church of Rock Valley.

Joyce was grateful for sharing her life with her 2 sons, Lyle Bakker of Sioux City, Iowa; Robert (Kathy) Bakker of Dakota City, Nebraska; 3 daughters, Cheryl (Randy) Grevengoed of Boyden, Iowa; Gloria Koops of Sioux Center, Iowa; Laurie (Don) Vander Plaats of Hull, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Joan) Mulder of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and 2 sisters-in-law, Katheron Middle of Rock Valley and Ann Tiedeman of Hull.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Jennie; husband, Gerritt; brother, Adrian Mulder; and 3 nephews, Ivin Mulder, Arwin Tiedeman, and Doug Middle.
