Jon "Toby" Anderson

Doon, IA: Jon “Toby” Anderson, 76, of Doon, Iowa, died Monday, January 10, 2022, at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley, Iowa. Memorial service will be held Sunday, January 16, at 2:30 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with Pastor Jim Sweers officiating. Visitation will follow the service from 3:00-5:00 PM at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Hillside Cemetery of Doon.

Jon “Toby” Andrew Anderson, son of Ivan and Bertha (Tiedeman) Anderson, was born April 8, 1945, at Le Mars, Iowa. Toby grew up in Doon, Iowa and attended school through 9th grade. After finishing school, Toby worked for Case Teunissen in Doon and Kooiker Manufacturing in Hull, Iowa. He then proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966-1968. Not long after he received his honorable discharge from the Navy and he returned home, Toby met Donna Baatz. Toby and Donna were united in marriage on January 17, 1969.

The couple made their home in Doon and Toby worked for Kooima Machine Works, now Total Component Solutions (TCS), in Rock Valley, Iowa and he also began farming near Doon in 1971. Toby farmed for 19 years while also spending time working for Northwest Manufacturing in Doon and Van Zee Enterprises in Rock Valley. After selling the farm in 1989, Toby drove a road grader for Lyon County until he retired.

Toby was very much a “people-person”. He enjoyed “shooting the breeze” and visiting with anyone he crossed paths with. He always looked forward to having family over to the house on the weekend. Toby and Donna loved to travel. They had many great trips together and nearly made it to all 50 states. He also loved his Oliver tractors, feeding and watching birds and squirrels, hunting, trap shooting, riding horse, and playing cards.

Toby is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Donna; 2 children, Deb (Jeff) Blauwet of Larchwood, Iowa and Andy (Ashley) Anderson of Doon; 6 grandchildren, Chase, Cody, Darren, Megan, Axton, and Austen; 3 great-grandchildren, Phenyx, Temperance, and Charley; brother, Don Anderson of Bonesteel, South Dakota; 3 sisters, Marilyn (Wendell) De Jong of Sheldon, Iowa, Marlene Tricoli of Doon, and Linda (Butch) Siebrands of Doon; and 2 aunts, Barb Anderson of Canton, South Dakota and Martha Anderson of Doon.

Preceding Toby in death were his parents, Ivan and Bertha; daughter, Julie Anderson; brother-in-law, Jim Tricoli; and sister-in-law, Doris Anderson.
