SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA – Johanna “Jo” Frances Holtkamp, 84, of Sioux Falls, formerly of rural Alcester, South Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea, South Dakota with Deacon Christie Meier officiating. Following the luncheon burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery rural Alcester, South Dakota. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 pm. To 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa is assisting the family.
Johanna “Jo” Holtkamp was born September 25, 1937, in Sioux Center, Iowa to parents William and Marie (Van Beek) DeVos. She attended grade school at West Branch and graduated from Hudson, South Dakota High School in 1955.
She married Clarence Medema on February 14, 1956, at Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Two sons were born to them.
On April 26, 1997, she married Walter Holtkamp at Big Springs Baptist Church, Alcester, South Dakota.
She worked at Morningside Care Center in Alcester for 35 years as a CNA and Bath Aide. She also typed for several people, including the therapist from Vermillion at the nursing home.
At Christmas time she gave bags of food to the needy people. She loved to play the piano and listen to CDs of Christian origin. Playing scrabble with her son, puzzles, and reading books were her favorite pastimes.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Randy Medema, Lexington, Kentucky and Doug (Jackie) Medema, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; stepdaughters, Sharon (Dave) Nelson, Viborg, South Dakota, Lenora (Steve) Hendry, Sioux Falls, Trudy Roberts, Sioux Falls, and Marlys (Chuck) Vreugdenhil, Alcester; grandchildren, James Medema, Olivia Medema, Justin Pump, and Megan Pump of Sioux Falls; seven stepgrandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; also her brother, Arlin DeVos, Sioux Falls; sister, Mary (Bill) DeVries, Walker, Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Judy DeVos of Sioux Falls.
