Hull, IA: Johanna Gorter, 86, of Hull, Iowa died Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 8, at 2:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with Rev. Cliff Hoekstra officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery of Doon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Johanna Gorter, daughter of Jacob and Lucy (Buwalda) Gorter, was born on June 24, 1931 at the family farm near Doon, Iowa. Johanna was part of the Hope Haven family and enjoyed working different jobs at Hope Haven. She enjoyed stringing beads and making necklaces with those beads. Johanna also liked to color in her coloring books and she loved when little children would stop by to see her and give her a big hug. Johanna spent the last 12 years at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa where she felt at home and received exceptional care.
Johanna is survived by her two sisters, Marge and husband Leonard Nagel of Buena Park, California, and Dorothy and husband Clarence Fransman of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law, Jeanette Gorter of Doon, Iowa; 18 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Lucy; two sisters, Ann Monen and Lucille Hoekstra; brother, Lawrence Gorter; one niece, Pat; and two nephews, Kevin and Jerry.
