Joan Driesen

Rock Valley, Iowa: Joan Driesen, 72, of Rock Valley died Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Garry Nyenhuis officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Joan Yvonne Driesen, daughter of Bill and Lois (Lape) Winter, was born November 25, 1942 at Canton, South Dakota. She graduated from Rock Valley High School, class of 1961. Joan was united in marriage with Sam Driesen on March 30, 1962. The couple lived around Northwest Iowa and in 1978 they made their home in Rock Valley and Joan began working at K Products. She spent 25 years at K Products before working in Rock Valley at Pizza Hut and then the Pizza Ranch, where she was currently employed.

Joan was an avid reader and she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She was a great cook and loved cooking for her family and making all their favorite meals. Joan cherished her grandkids and they were so special to her. Joan looked forward to Saturday nights when she and Sam would have a date night to Sioux Center.

Joan is survived by her husband, Sam Driesen; four daughters, Shelly (Kendall) Munneke of Rock Valley, Sherry (Joe) Dorhout of Luverne, Minnesota, Beth Houston of Indianola, Iowa, and Nikki (Jerry) Kelderman of Rock Valley; 12 grandchildren, Corey (Natasha) Munneke and their children, Kacen and Maci, Travis (special friend, Lacey) Houston and their children Ryker and Lincoln, Kyle (Megan) Munneke and their child, Carter, Chris (Kayla) Dorhout, Bryant (Rose) Houston, Kassidy (fiancé Ross Van Ginkel) Munneke, Jessica (Dylan) Wheeler, Aaron (Taylor) Houston and their children, Sophia and Brody, Casey Kelderman, Tanner Houston, Shayna Kelderman, and Dawson Kelderman; 4 brothers, Darwin Winter of Norwalk, Iowa; Marlo (Liz) Winter of Sun City, Arizona; Tom (Fran) Winter of Canton; and Lanny (Shirley) Winter of Boyden, Iowa; and one sister, Jean Driesen of Hawarden, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Lois; brother, Gary Winter; sister, Karolyn Henderson; brother-in-law, Jim Driesen; and sister-in-law, Donnis Winter.
