Jennie Rus

Rock Valley, IA: Jennie Rus, 86, of Rock Valley died Monday, July 27, 2015 at the Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Jennie Rus (nee Van Veldhuizen) was born on June 25, 1929, in Bellflower, CA, to Aart and Cornelia (Brouwer) Van Veldhuizen. At the age of eight, her family moved to the Doon, IA, area. After completing her eighth-grade education, Jennie worked at various stores in Rock Valley. On December 8, 1948, she was united in marriage in Rock Valley to George Rus. One child was born to George and Jennie. They farmed near Corsica, SD, for 43 years, and then moved to Rock Valley in 1991. Jennie enjoyed taking care of her chickens, and enjoyed selling eggs to relatives, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and she also loved tending to her flowers.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, George; her daughter, Clarice Van Beek, of Inwood, IA; and Clarice’s fiancée, Rev. Bartel Elshout, of Grand Rapids, MI; 4 grandchildren, David and Sandra Hoogendoorn and their children Morgan, Maria, Abigail, and Anne; Terry and Tami Van Beek and their children Briton, Jordon, Stefan, Kerrigan, and Brooklyn; Troy and Abbey Van Beek and their children Micah, Karsen, and Taysen all of Inwood, IA; and Joshua and Shonna De Jager of Doon, IA; sisters-in-law, Ida Van Veldhuizen of Burlington, IA; Margie Vanden Toorn of Sioux Center, IA; and Hermina Van Veldhuizen & Bernice Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, IA; Brothers of George Rus: Cornie Rus, and Marvin & Clazina Rus—all of Sioux Center, IA.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Gerald Van Beek; great-grandson, Collin Van Beek; brothers, Peter, Jasper, John, Joe, Art, Arie, and Cornie Van Veldhuizen, as well as two infant brothers; and sister, Dora Koops.
