Jennie Van Egdom

Hawarden, IA ~ Jennie H. Van Egdom, 96, of Hawarden, Iowa died Saturday, August 06, 2016 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. Memorial service will be Thursday, August 11, at 11:00 AM at Hawarden Community Church with Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Private family burial will be held prior to services at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, August 10 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hawarden Community Church. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Jennie H. Van Egdom, daughter of Henry and Minnie (Vande Weerd) Franken, was born December 8, 1919 at Perkins, Iowa. Jennie was united in marriage with John Van Egdom in August 1939 at Inwood, Iowa. To this union the couple was blessed with 6 children. Jennie was a homemaker and kept a meticulously clean house. She also enjoyed ironing and had all the family looking their best. Jennie enjoyed embroidery work. She made several pillowcases and kitchen towels for her grandkids and other relatives. Jennie enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.

Jennie was a member of the Hawarden Community Church, Reformed Church Women, and Willing Workers. She also served as a Foster-Grandparent and worked at the Hawarden Senior Center and Child Development Center.

She is survived by her 6 children; Roger Van Egdom of Fairmont, Minnesota, Bev Brenner of Parker, South Dakota, Harlan (Linda) Van Egdom of Hawarden, Ron (Deb) Van Egdom of Inwood, Leon (Mary) Van Egdom of Rock Valley, Iowa, and RaNae Bultman of Rock Valley; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bernie (Judy) Franken of Sioux Center, Iowa; sister-in-law, Margaret Franken of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and dear friend, Luella Karr.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minnie; husband, John; daughter-in-law, Janet Van Egdom; son-in-law, Leonard Brenner; 2 infant grandsons; an infant granddaughter, Angela Marie; 2 brothers, Alan (Irene) Franken and Jim Franken; and sister, Helene (Gerrit) Dykstra.
