Jenner Nicholas Johnson was born to Jason and Tami (Miedema) Johnson on July 2, 2003, at Hegg Health Center, with the help of Dr. Denise Greene. He grew up in Inwood, Iowa, attending Inwood Christian School from Kindergarten through 4th grade and Rock Valley Christian School through his 8th grade year. Jenner had a heart so big that he believed everyone deserved to experience school with him, and so he spread his love around wherever he went. He then attended Western Christian High School, where he excelled in track and football. One of his proudest moments came when he competed against Cooper DeJean at state track and placed 4th. Always thinking of others, Jenner wanted to once again give everyone the opportunity to attend school with him, so for his senior year, he transferred to West Lyon High School, where he was a proud Wildcat. It was during his junior year at Western that Jenner set his infamous long jump record of 22.2 feet, a testament to his athletic ability and drive to be the best.
Jenner loved Jesus, was baptized and attended Inwood Christian Reformed Church where he participated in Sunday School and Youth Group. Jenner worked for American Electric, specializing in residential electrical work, where he aspired to become an electrical apprentice to further his career.
Jenner was many things to many people. To his family, he was known by several affectionate nicknames—JenBen, Jenneration, Little Jenner, Our Little Bonus, and Squinner—but the one thing that was always constant was his boundless love and enthusiasm for life. Jenner and his brother Jackson were often referred to as “the little boys” even as they grew older, a nickname that stuck with them for life thanks to their mother.
Growing up with two older brothers, and an older sister, Jenner was fiercely competitive, always eager to outshine them at any sport. He had a drive and determination that were unmatched, always pushing himself to be better, to do better, because he believed in the power of hard work and perseverance. Despite his competitive edge, Jenner was the first to celebrate the victories of others. He had an infectious laugh—especially when he caught more fish than “this kid” which is how he often referred to Jackson.
Jenner had a kind, loving, and giving heart. A self-proclaimed "huge hugger," he shared love freely and unconditionally with everyone he encountered. Whether you were a family member, a friend, or even a stranger, Jenner had a way of making you feel special. He always made sure to tell those he loved, “I love you.” His love was evident in everything he did, and his family and friends were the fortunate recipients of his unwavering affection.
A diehard Cincinnati Bengals fan, Jenner knew every stat about his team and lived by the famous chant, “Who Dey!” His enthusiasm for life also extended to his passion for sports, as well as his daredevil stunts off the diving board and famous backflips. He loved weightlifting, and never met a Rubik’s cube he couldn’t master.
Jenner created a kitchen in his loft bedroom where he consumed countless amounts of ramen noodles. Although he claimed to be a healthy eater, chips could never be kept in the house.
He was an extraordinary young man with a personality larger than life itself, one that could light up any room with his infectious energy, enthusiasm, and his laugh. He was incredibly handsome, had a heart of gold, and would do anything for those he cared about.
Jenner is survived by his loving parents, Jason and Tami Johnson; his siblings, Jacob (Karissa), Jessica, and Jackson; his fraternal grandparents, Roger and Kathy Johnson; and countless friends and extended family who will forever remember him with deep love and affection.
Jenner was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ed and Lucy Miedema.
Jenner, you were loved beyond measure. May your spirit soar in the presence of God. Your untimely passing leaves a hole in the lives of everyone who knew you, but we take comfort in knowing that you are in the arms of our Heavenly Father, surrounded by love and peace. Your spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
You will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget your laugh, your love, and your zest for life. Until we meet again, Our Little Bonus—We Love You.
Memorials may be given to Jenner’s family to be used at a later time.
