Jeff Jamie Lerdal

Hawarden, IA: Jeff Jamie Lerdal, 53, of Hawarden, Iowa passed away peacefully, Friday, February 7, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 11:00 AM at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with Pastor Charlie Dial officiating. Visitation, with the family present, will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 AM at the funeral home.

Jeff Jamie Lerdal was born January 27, 1972, to Steven and Susan (Fuglsby) Lerdal in Madison, South Dakota. Jeff and family moved to Hawarden, Iowa, in 1977 where he attended West Sioux Community Schools. 

 Jeff worked for Lynott Implement alongside his dad from May 2000 until his time of death, with brief stints at NorAm in Le Mars, Iowa and the lamb plant in Hawarden. 

 He was united in marriage to Robin Baughfman on April 1, 2018. Robin brought with her 4 children, Matt, Kendra, Cieara, and Chris. Jeff was blessed with his grandchildren, Taylin and Piper. Jeff was their favorite person, and they were his. 

 Jeff was a mechanic for diesel and small engines. He was an amazing mechanic and could fix almost anything with a motor. He also enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, and golf. Jeff also liked woodworking with his dad. He was a great cook that loved (or tolerated) all the recipes Robin had him try. Jeff loved sitting around drinking and playing games with family and friends. Jeff enjoyed teaching his stepchildren new things they wanted to learn. 

 Jeff is survived by his wife, Robin Lerdal of Hawarden; his step kids, Matt Van Lo of Hopkins, South Carolina, Kendra Van Lo (Jody) of Hawarden, Cieara Blumeyer of Hawarden, and Chris Blumeyer of Yankton, South Dakota; a son, Austin and grandson, Levi; Jeff’s granddaughters, Taylin and Piper; mother, Rev. Susan (Ron) Benz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; brothers, Scott (Sherry) Lerdal of Hull, Iowa, and Mark (Chellsie) Lerdal of Brookings, South Dakota; brother-in-law, Travis Baughfman of Sheldon, Iowa; half-sister, Kristen (Jason) Scott of Le Mars; nieces and nephews, Kaylee (Johnny) Strong and kids, Samantha Orton and kids, Derrik (Kayla) Orton and kids, Zach (Melanie) Lerdal, Isaac Lerdal, Logan Beitelspacher, and Rylan Schmidt. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Lerdal; paternal grandparents, Merle and Madeline Lerdal; maternal grandparents, Norman and Myrtle Fuglsby; uncles, Gary Lerdal and Ron Lerdal; aunts, Jewyll Sponheim and Joanne Lerdal; father-in-law, William Baughfman; and mother-in-law, Mary Noethe.
