Janette L. Sogn, 86, of Canton, South Dakota, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society in Canton. Funeral service will be held Monday, April 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of rural Hudson, South Dakota with Rev. Nathan Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation, with family present, will be Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Porter Funeral Home in Hudson from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Janette Louise Sogn, daughter of Walter and Lena (Smit) Bakker, was born December 11, 1928. Janette worked at Otis Radio in Hawarden, Iowa for 35 years. She was united in marriage with Richard Sogn on June 24, 1961 in Hudson, South Dakota. Together the couple lived on a farm near Hudson until they moved to Canton, South Dakota in October, 1994. Richard passed away on June 9, 1996. While in Canton, Janette worked at the Hiawatha Golf Course and Keystone. Janette moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Canton on January 28, 2011. Janette was an avid quilter, she was a great cook and she loved flowers.
Janette is survived by her two daughters, Linda Madland of Canton and Marlys Bakker of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Kirk Eilers (fiancée Christy Skinner) of Canton, Stacey Eilers of Springfield, South Dakota, Kelly (Jeanne) Eilers of Canton, and Steph (Gale) Nelson of Canton; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Butch (Judy) Bakker of Fairview, South Dakota; three sisters, Betty Bockelman of Hawarden, Iowa, Mary (Bud) Lias of Akron, Iowa, and Tootie (Lowell) Ludwig of Akron, Iowa; sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of Irene, South Dakota; and a special friend, Lowell Pearson of Alcester.
Janette was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lena; husband, Richard; brother, Guy (Gladys) Bakker; sister, Albertha (Bill) Faulkner; brother-in-law, Ray Bockelman; and son-in-law, James Madland.
