Celebration of Life Service for the lives of brother and sister, Randall Ray Brown, March 28, 1963-March 22, 2015 and Janet J. Brown, September 21, 1955-December 27, 2015 will be 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Ireton Community Center. Rev. Barb Joy of the Ireton United Methodist Church will officiate.
Janet J. Brown, daughter of Ralph and Donna (Muth) Brown, was born September 21, 1955 in Hawarden, Iowa. She was raised in McNally where her parents owned and operated a grain elevator. Janet was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton.
She attended Elementary school in Ireton and graduated from West Sioux High School in Hawarden, Iowa in 1973. Janet graduated from Wartburg College in 1977 with a BA in Political Science/Philosophy. She worked for one year for Congressman Berkley Bedell at the Sioux City office and then attended the University of Iowa Law School, graduating in 1981.
Janet practiced law in Sioux City for twelve years, was Interim Art Director for the Sioux City Art Center at which time she supervised the Art Center’s move to their new facility and later she worked at In-Weave in Hawarden.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, and genealogy. Janet was an avid Hawkeye and Minnesota Twins fan and a Democrat. She was an organist/pianist at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Ireton United Methodist Church. She was a Red Cross volunteer and was named fund raising volunteer for 1997 by the Siouxland Area Chapter, and was a member of the board of Shesler Hall for several years. Janet was a dedicated member of the Ireton Area Historical Society where she headed the Ireton 125th cookbook committee, lead the Veteran’s project, remapped and organized the Pleasant Hill Cemetery records, and created and maintained the Ireton website.
Janet passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the age of 60 years.
She is survived by two sisters, Marsha Brown of Ireton and Carol Brown Williams of Ames, Iowa; two nieces, Kathryn Williams of Laramie, Wyoming and Nicole Williams of Ames; aunt, Ruth (Brown) Trageser of Hawarden; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Randall.
