HAWARDEN, IOWA – Irma Jean Adams, 99, of Hawarden, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Sunny Dominic officiating. Burial will follow at the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday. The Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Irma Jean Adams was born November 19, 1918 to Roy and Belle (Miner) Smith near Hudson, South Dakota. She attended Virginia Grade School in South Dakota thru 8th grade and graduated from the Hawarden, Iowa High School. Irma attended Beauty School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
She married Wendell E. Adams August 19, 1940 at Hawarden. They farmed in Union County, South Dakota until moving to Hawarden in 1981. Wendell passed away in 1985.
Irma was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church. She loved nature, sunsets, flowers, and wildlife. She was known for her sense of humor and cooking skills. Irma was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Smith of Huron, South Dakota; three sons, Ronald of California, Steven (Sandra) of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Patrick of Storm Lake, Iowa; a brother, Rex Smith of Hudson, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell; daughter, Barb Schiefen; son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Dawn Adams; son-in-law, Jerry Smith; grandson, Marty Schiefen; sister, Hazel Burke; and a brother, Harold Smith.
