Iona "Donnie" "Donnie" Wood

Hawarden, Iowa: Iona “Donnie” Wood, 93, of Hawarden died Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Condolences for the family may be left online at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Iona “Donnie” Wood was born September 18, 1921 to Fred and Anna (Richardson) Heuer in rural Hawarden, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, where she remained a lifelong member and active in church organizations. Donnie graduated from Hawarden High School in 1938. In 1941, she married George Wood while he was serving in the U.S. Army. George died in 1993.

Donnie is survived by her daughters, Kay (Jack) Borchers and Randee (Denny) Peters all of Hawarden, Iowa; grandchildren, Shari (Steve) Rehder, Stephanie (Jeff) Petersen all of Hawarden, Brandy (Carey) Borchers of Sioux Center, Abby (Rob) Maynard of Sioux City, and Bill (JoAnn) Peters of Hinton; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gwen Gant of Manteca, California and Doris Wood of Naperville, Illinois; and many nephews and nieces.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, George; son, Stuart Wood; brothers, Ted, Art, and Bud Heuer; and sisters, Helen Busch and Vera Squier.
