Hermina Hoogendoorn

Sioux Falls, South Dakota ~ Hermina Hoogendoorn, 88, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Rock Valley, Iowa, died on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa, with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Porter Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Hermina Hoogendoorn was born April 5, 1929 in Corsica, South Dakota, the daughter of Sam and Gertrude (Zomer) Koedam. She married Gilbert Hoogendoorn on March 9, 1950 in Corsica, South Dakota.

The couple farmed north of Inwood, Iowa and later farmed south of Inwood. They moved to Rock Valley, Iowa in 1964. Hermina worked as a nurse’s aide at the Valley Manor Nursing Home for many years. They moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1980. She then was a child care provider for 16 years. Hermina enjoyed knitting.

She is survived by her husband, Gilbert of Sioux Falls; son, Dan Hoogendoorn also of Sioux Falls; two brothers. Sam (Reva) Koedam of Canton, South Dakota and Jim (Kathy) Koedam of Corsica, South Dakota; two sisters, Lyda Van Otterloo of Rock Valley, Iowa and Ruth (Leonard) Zoeller of Hawarden, Iowa; and many nephews and nieces.

Hermina was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bill, Herm, John, and Andy; and a sister, Jennie Vonk.
