Hermina Hamann

Rock Valley, Iowa: Hermina Irene Hamann, 75, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in George, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11:30 AM at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Donald Nelson officiating. A luncheon and a time of visiting will follow the service.

Caregiving was Hermina Hamann’s passion. As a mother, wife, sister, aunt, employee, or volunteer helping others have better lives is what gave her life meaning. Hermina Irene Hamann, born March 17, 1943, died June 14, 2018 after an intense battle with brain cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Michael (Jordan) Selha of Des Moines and Craig (Tyler) Chingren-Hamann of Omaha; her two brothers, Gerrit (Carol) Kuipers and Gradus (Caroline) Kuipers; two sisters, Gertrude Te Slaa and Karen Dykstra; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Matilda (Vander Vliet) Kuipers; husband, Vernon Hamann; and brothers-in-law, Howard Te Slaa and Richard Dykstra.

Hermina touched the lives of many people who are often overlooked by society. She worked as a nursing aide at Valley Manor, in group homes at Hope Haven, and most recently as a Senior Companion. She was very involved in her church community, serving on several committees, baking Communion bread, and caring for flowers.
