Henrietta Van Gelder

Ireton, Iowa~ Henrietta Van Gelder, 81, of Le Mars, formerly of Ireton, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Reformed Church in Ireton with Rev. Doug Van Aartsen officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Friday with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Ireton. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Henrietta Van Gelder was born April 20, 1934 in Barneveld, Holland, the daughter of Gerrit and Tillie (Van Haarselar) Bronkhorst. She came to America with her family at the age of thirteen and graduated from Orange City High School in 1952.
She married Ken Van Gelder September 26, 1958 at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. They lived in Ireton for 45 years before moving to the Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars September of 2013. She enjoyed her Crochet Club and belonged to the First Reformed Church and church guild. Henrietta could often be seen having cappuccino with the ladies and watching Iowa Hawkeye games.
She is survived by her husband, Ken; 2 daughters, Sandra and husband Kenny Barnes of Alcester, South Dakota and Laura Van Gelder of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; son, Gary and wife Crystal Van Gelder of Hawarden, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Sonjia, Rie, Erik, and Carter; sister, Toni and husband Hank Vande Stroet of Inwood, Iowa; brother-in-law, Randall Van Gelder and sister-in-law, Anges Van Gelder both of Orange City; sister-in-law, Mary Vlieger of Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews and great friends.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, John and Anne Van Gelder; sister, Willie Leewis; brother, Dick Bronkhorst; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jenny, Margaret, George, Charles, Jo, and Gary.
Henrietta’s family gives special thanks to the Good Samaritan Center and Le Mars Dialysis for the care given to her and her family.
