ROCK VALLEY, IOWA – Hattie Hubers, 86, of Rock Valley, formerly of Corsica, SD, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018, at the Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.
Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Corsica, SD, with Rev. E. C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery in Corsica. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Hattie Hubers was born January 23, 1932, near Maurice, IA, the daughter of Berend D. and Marie (Ymker) Schelling. Later the family moved to a farm near Rock Valley, IA. Hattie was the oldest of 3 sisters and 4 brothers. She assisted mothers when they had their babies. Hattie enjoyed her time working at the local grocery store all the while honing her mathematical skills. Hattie met Harold Hubers of Orange City, IA. He was drafted during the Korean War and they were married on December 29, 1953, when he was home on furlough. When Harold returned from the service, they made their home near Corsica, Armour, and Lake Andes, SD. To this union, were born 6 girls and 2 boys.
Harold passed away on August 27, 2008. Hattie returned to Rock Valley in 2010 to be closer to her children. She moved into Whispering Heights in 2013.
Hattie enjoyed reading, crocheting around baby blankets and burp cloths, and crocheting afghans. She made afghans for all her children and grandchildren. Hattie also made baby blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always enjoyed visiting family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Hermina (Jeff) Pollman of Bridgewater, SD, Donna Marie (Harlan) Fluit of Inwood, IA, Helen (Don) Elgersma of Sanborn, IA, Marcia Hyronimus of Lennox, SD, Harriet Hubers of Rock Valley, IA, Howard (Kim) Hubers of Brandon, SD, Duane (Stephanie) Hubers of Geddes, SD, and Mary Hieb of Brandon, SD; brother, Cornie (Jean) Schelling; 3 sisters, Betty Powell, Marlene (Clarence) Zomer and Minnie Jean (Ivan) Van Der Werff; 2 sisters-in-law, Corrie Schelling and Shirley Weisser; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold: son-in-law, Scott Hyronimus; grandson, Nicholas Hieb; 3 brothers, Rochus and wife Marian Schelling, Lambert Schelling, and John Schelling; and a brother-in-law, Frank Powell.
