Hawarden, Iowa~ Harris Jerome Dahlquist, 72, of Hawarden, Iowa, formerly of Laurel, Nebraska, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital.
Memorial Service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. The Rev. Barb Joy of the United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Eden Cemetery at Hudson, South Dakota.
Harris Jerome Dahlquist was born June 6, 1943 in Concord, Nebraska, the son of Clarence and Mildred (Gunnarson) Dahlquist. He graduated from the Laurel-Concord High School. Harris served in the United States Army in 1964 to 1965.
Harris married Carol Welfel on August 17, 1985 at Hartington, Nebraska. The couple lived in many areas and lived in Hawarden, Iowa since 2001. Harris farmed and worked in hog confinements until his retirement in 2011. He enjoyed farming and tractors.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Hawarden; 4 step children, Troy (Jeanie) Johns, Shelli (Floyd) Learing, Roni Maier, Jason (special friend Kris) Johns; many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Betty) Dahlquist; sister-in-law, Harriet (LaRue) Dahlquist; and 7 nieces and nephews.
Harris was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LaRue and Marlyn and his wife Mary; a step grandson, Jonathan Learing; and a niece, Rachelle Dahlquist.
