Gysbert Bakker

Hull, IA: Gysbert 'Gys' Bakker Jr., 75, of rural Hull, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at his home due to cancer. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley with Rev. Matthew Haan officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Gys was born November 29, 1937, near Hudson, South Dakota, son of Gysbert Sr. and Johanna (DeKam) Bakker. He married Donna Mantel on October 23, 1959. at Doon, Iowa. Together they lived Northwest of Hull and Gys was a partner with his brother John in Bakker Brothers Building Moving. Gys enjoyed gardening, feeding and watching birds, spending time with the grandkids, and being in his shop.

Surviving relatives include his wife Donna; daughters, Dorri Jo (Darrell) Bloemendaal of Hull, Gwen (Jamison) Van Voorst of Hull; 8 grandchildren, Kristin (James) De Jong, Ben (Rochelle) Bloemendaal, Dan (Shannon) Bloemendaal, Abbie (Nathan) Jansma, Jon (Rachel) Bloemendaal, Tasha Bloemendaal, Shaylie Bloemendaal, Jake Van Voorst; 8 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Megan, Mattias, Malachi, Asher, Abel, Addisyn, Bentley; brothers, John (Joyce) Bakker, and Albert (Carolyn) Bakker all of Rock Valley; sisters, Bertha (Francis) Leloux of Rock Valley, Nellie Keizer of Hull, Goldie Veldman of Hull, Jo (Robert) Catchot of Norfolk, VA, Gert Busby of Rock Valley.

Gys was preceded in death by his parents, Gysbert and Johanna; son-in-law, Norwyn Bloemendaal; sister, Lena Bakker; brother, Clarence Bakker; brothers-in-law, Al Keizer, Buzz Busby, Gerrit Veldman
