Greta Gerritsen, 98, of Inwood, Iowa died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Fellowship Village. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Inwood with Rev. Rob Horstman officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5:30-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood. Condolences for the family may be left online at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Greta was born February 3, 1916 in Hospers, Iowa to Fred and Bertha (Pluim) Vander Naald. On February 6, 1935, Greta married John Gerritsen at Canton, South Dakota. Together they lived at Hospers, Rock Valley, and Fairview, South Dakota before settling in Inwood. Greta was a member of the Methodist Church in Inwood where she was active in Ladies Aid. Greta was a wonderful baker specializing in making bread, cinnamon rolls, and donuts. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and embroidering. Greta quilted a blanket for every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild totally over 100 blankets. Her family was everything to her.
Greta is survived by her sons, Jack Gerritsen of Vancouver, WA, Bill (Marla) Gerritsen of Inwood, and Mike (Jean) Gerritsen of Ankeny, IA; daughters, Beverly (Wayne) Zoerink of Palm Harbor, FL, Diana (Dan) Wentworth of Flandreau, SD, Kathleen (Chris) Moody of Apple Valley, CA, and Coralee (Charles) Knoblock of Larchwood, IA; daughter-in-law, Marcella Gerritson of Rapid City, SD; 27 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; sons, Tom Gerritson and Kenneth (Margaret) Garretson; 2 brothers; and 1 sister.
