Rock Valley, Iowa: Grace Van Maanen, 86, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church of Rock Valley. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Grace Joan Elbers, daughter of John and Helen (Hoff) Elbers, was born on April 12, 1928 at Steen, Minnesota. She graduated from Hills High School at Hills, Minnesota. After graduating from high school she worked for Golden Rule Drug Store at Rock Rapids, Iowa. On February 11, 1953 Grace was united in marriage with Jacob Van Maanen at Steen. The couple farmed near Hills, Edgerton, and Hardwick, Minnesota before moving to Rock Valley in 1966. Jacob died on February 9, 2001. Grace was a good cook and a fabulous homemaker. She was an avid cleaner and always had her house in clean order. She was a member of First Reformed Church of Rock Valley where she was a member of Rachel’s Circle.

Grace is survived by her son, Harlen (Karie Pauley) Van Maanen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; son-in-law, Bob (April) Van Der Schaaf of Visalia, California; two grandsons, Blake (Kristi) Van Der Schaaf and Brett (Bri) Van Der Schaaf; five great-grandchildren, Ayden, Taryn, Tess, Colton, and Cayson; one brother, Marvin (Jean) Elbers of Brandon, South Dakota; four sisters, Arlene (Jim) Church of Chanhassen, Minnesota; Doreen Schuck of Sibley, Iowa; Carol (Marion) Van Bemmel of Luverne, Minnesota; Beverly (Gary) Siebring of George, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Elbers of Luverne, and Larona Elbers of Steen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen; husband, Jacob; daughter, Barbara Van Der Schaaf; grandson, Barry Van Der Schaaf; three brothers, Gilbert, Stub, and James Elbers; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jacob and Margaret Bakker.
